CubeODE v1.2

New CR2032 Battery and Socket

The Nintendo GameCube, like many other game consoles, uses a CR2032 battery for retaining time and date settings. When the battery dies, the console will ask for you to set the time and date when powered on after being unplugged. This can be annoying, and replacing the battery requires de-soldering it from the controller board. With this little modification, the original battery has been replaced with a socket, so if the new CR2032 dies in the future, replacing it will no longer require soldering.

New Thermal Pads

Thermal pads are an intermediary that improves heat transfer between two surfaces (in this case, the heatsink and chip). Thermal pads can break down over time due to aging and heat cycling, which can reduce their ability to transfer heat effectively. The old thermal pads on this console have been removed, and replaced with high quality modern thermal pads from Arctic. This will optimize heat transfer from the CPU/GPU/RAM to the heatsink keeping everything running at the lowest possible temperature.

Electrolytic Capacitor Replacement (Complete Recap)

After many years of use, electrolytic capacitors can start to lose their capacitance and thus their ability to perform as intended. This can have varying effects on performance (none good). The electrolyte, paper and aluminum foil in the capacitor degrade physically and chemically over time. Aging capacitors can cause a wide range of issues and in extreme cases can leak electrolytic fluid onto the PCB (again, not good). All electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard of this console have been replaced with high quality, long life Nichicon/Panasonic.

Ultrasonic Cleaning

Over time, dirt and dust can start to collect inside a video game console. This is very common, with some consoles being more prone to accumulating debris than others. With its open vents on the top and sides, the Nintendo 64 is one of these consoles. Once something finds its way in, it rarely finds it way out. That being said, this console has a new shell, and the motherboard, shielding, and controller ports were all run through an industrial ultrasonic cleaner to remove dirt, dust or residual flux. This means you will be getting an extremely clean console inside and out!
