This is a send-in installation service for the 3DO Retro GEM from PixelFX.co. 3DO Retro GEM kit is NOT included with this service and must be provided by the customer.

Installation Service Includes -

Installation of 3DO Retro GEM

Installation of 3DO Retro GEM flex and associated wiring
Installation of 3DO Retro GEM power board
Update 3DO Retro GEM firmware to latest release
Console tested to ensure proper functionality

Console Cleaning

Exterior wipedown
Internal cleaning and dust removal

This does not include removal of tough stains or caked on substances (ultrasonic cleaning is available for deep cleaning).

Electrolytic Capacitor Replacement

Over time, electrolytic capacitors lose their ability to perform as intended. This can have varying effects on performance (none good). The electrolyte, paper and aluminum foil in the capacitor degrade physically and chemically over time. Aging capacitors can cause a wide range of issues and in extreme cases can leak electrolytic fluid onto the PCB (again, not good).

Motherboard Recap

This option replaces the capacitors on the 3DO motherboard.

Socketed Battery Replacement

The Panasonic 3DO, like many consoles of that generation, rely on a battery for maintaining the internal save features. If this battery goes out, not only will you lose the data on the console, but normally have to desolder the battery to replace it! This service adds a socketed CR2450 (and new quality Duracell Battery), so if the battery dies many years from now, no soldering will be required to replace it.

3DO RGB Installation

This service adds an RGB board and 9-pin mini. RGB video is taken from the 3DO GPU, encoded, and passed to a 9-Pin Mini Din (Sega Genesis Model 2). This is perfect if you have an external scaler like RT5X or RT4K. The recommended cable for this is HD RetroVision Sega Genesis Model 2.

Noctua Fan Upgrade

This service will replace your existing fan (or add one), with a new silent Noctua Fan. Featuring advanced aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels and Noctua’s AAO frame, the NF-A4x10 FLX is a highly optimized, premium quality quiet fan in 40x10mm size. Smooth Commutation Drive technology and Noctua’s reference class SSO2 bearings ensure superb running smoothness and excellent long-term stability.

Ultrasonic Cleaning

With this service, your console will be disassembled and ultrasonic cleaned. Ultrasonic cleaning removes even the most stubborn dust and dirt that a hand cleaning just cant reach. Service includes -

Ultrasonic cleaning of console shielding/heatsink

Additional Information -

Once your order is received, you will be sent shipping information to send your console in for the work to be completed.

Initial shipping is the customers responsibility. Please ship your console and kit with ample packing material. Shipping paid at checkout is how your console will be shipped back to you after the work has been completed.

Please only send the console and kit to be installed. Power cables, controllers, AV cables or any other accessories that are not needed will only raise the shipping costs both ways.

If a console arrives not working, you will be contacted and notified. Most things can be fixed and arrangements can be made, but in the case of a console that is inoperable, the console will be returned, and you will be refunded minus return shipping costs.

Turnaround time is usually within 2-3 weeks, but can be longer depending on current workload or if parts need to be ordered.
